Ireland

The other day I was flipping Channels and caught the last minutes of an interview with a CEO of a company in Ireland. The CEO was speaking about the economics of the country, albeit far from out-of-the-recovery-woods, he spoke of the last few years; the plan, the actions taken by his firm and the country’s public and private sector to be more business friendly. Commentators that followed the interview shared how spending was very slow by individuals, but the plans and actions taken by local businesses were very encouraging. The focus has been on exports, not of goods but of services as a global offering to support a strong local job market. As we come up on St. Patrick’s Day and get a glimpse of the ‘luck of the Irish’, see “Kiss me I’m Irish”...

tick tock

tick tock

Last week we had a planned power outage. I guess every now and then we all need to test the system and recharge, or reset something – Con-Ed it seems is no different. I never really thought about how may clocks we have around us: Mantel, Wall clocks(4), Stove, Microwave, Oven, Intercom, Watches, Cell Phones, Desktop(2), Laptops(3), iPod, iPad, alarm clocks (3),watches(4).. cars(2)…..WOW! During the fall back/ spring forward I don’t think the clock-count has such an impact, because that Saturday (the next one is 2am March 10, 2013) if we just happen to be in the room, before we leave it, we set the clock to season, at a leisurely pace. But with the off-season clock changing activity caused by the power outage, I found out that all clocks do not treat a...

The other day I found a newspaper cut out from what I think was 2001. It was a top 10 of reminders such as #10 Be honest and dependable – or 1-9 don’t matter. #4 Never Stop Learning. # 1 How you think is everything. Over the last few weeks the world has seen dramatic events; natural and man-made tragedies from one spectrum to the other. When sharing with people on what they are doing this week, some said ‘keeping close to home’ by volunteering at shelters, hospitals and soup kitchens. For each tragedy that seems to be around the corner, there are miracles and wonderment of support and hope now. I am humbled by the world around me. I am grateful for the many friendships and adversaries over the years from whom I have learned so much. I will continue...

Lighten Up!

Lighten Up!

The holiday season is in full swing. If you are scraping the old jack-o-lanterns off your front porch, or marveling at the good works of your family over the last two days of putting up lights to put the Eiffel Tower on New Year’s to shame, you are thinking about your home. Am I winterized? Am I ready for the rain? Am I going to stock up on holiday decorations when they go on sale after Christmas? We have holiday decorations and we marvel at the neighborhoods that are so prepped, so coordinated and so lit-up…. like a Christmas Tree! What does this have to do with Real Estate in the Santa Clarita Valley? If you are looking for a place to hang your mistletoe, a good front window for your menorah, a good place to store your holiday sheets and towels, the...

pitch

pitch

Recently I saw the movie Pitch Perfect and got a glimpse of the world of competitive a cappella. Interestingly in the same week I heard an interview with Jermaine Paul, the winner of The Voice. In Pitch Perfect, a character is discovered singing in the shower, and Jermaine Paul shared that his family always had music in the home; music all around singing in the living room. Oddly too, my own house reshuffle has landed where we finally have the music room I had always hoped for. The music and guitar stands set out where people can pick up the guitar or violin or shake a tambourine and experience music. This week I was treated to Happy Birthday- a duet from my fine fiddlin’ family. It brought me such joy! If I could figure out how to put that in a card, I...

fall

fall

Ah, Fall! Now, the word at this time of year means here come the designs for pumpkin carving. Soon there will be a reprieve of the three digit weather; it conjures up the scent of apples and cinnamon. Falling also conjures up falling in love, falling onto freshly laundered linens… or as in the case of a dear friend – falling, plain and simple. The mis-step caused her to assemble the most-unwelcome of accessories – “the boot”. She began to tell me on how she had to rethink her path to get to her door from the garage. It turns out that the tight squeeze due to few boxes is now a major inconvenience. So this got me thinking about my own ‘mount cardboard’ that seems to have crept into some rooms and the ‘shuv-a-latta’ affliction of some of my...
