set the stage for change

Successful resolution is relatively simple, but not necessarily easy. There’s a difference. Looking back over the details of our lives, it’s simple to list resolutions with a firm intention to make changes. But as many of us have seen, those promises we make are not always easy to keep. Unless we couple strong commitment with accountability, our desire to make those changes can fade. Not always, but more often than not.

You can set yourself up for success this year as you set goals and make resolutions. The better you know yourself, the more likely you are to triumph. Begin by evaluating your life by the following criteria:

Your Value System
What is the overall quality of your life? Does it mesh with your value system? Your value system represents things most important to you. Think about your relationships, your work, and your overall life’s circumstances. Does your life reflect what is most important to you?

Moving Forward
Do you KNOW what you really want out of life? You’d be surprised at how many people answer “no” to this question; “Hmm…I never really thought about it…” they say. Are you one of these people?
Once you get around to thinking about it (assuming you haven’t), and discover there are things you’d like to change, get out a new journal and sharpen your pencil! Make a list of things you’d like to change as you move forward.

Release!
Noting those things you’d like to change is a very good first step. Unless it’s backed up by willingness to let go, it’s not going to do you much good. Be willing to release all that no longer serves you; your dead-end job, your fizzled relationship, your extra weight, your clutter. In order to make room for the new, you have to shed the old. So, get rid of anything that’s keeping you from living the life of your dreams. Some things will be easier to let go of than others, but every step forward takes you one step closer to living blissfully.

Consciously create what you want in life by declaring your intention and backing it up with ACTION! Recreate your life by setting magnificent goals and powerful resolutions. Break them down into bite-sized pieces and set yourself up for success.
