mercury retrograde

It’s that time again!  Mercury is retrograde! What does that mean?

Some people feel like this…..

Three or four times a year for three weeks at a time, you may notice that your computers glitch more than usual, your fax machines and cell phones malfunction,  messages and car keys are lost, and you ask yourself “What the hell is going on here?”
It is not unusual to run into someone who says, “Oh, Mercury must be retrograde.”

Like I said before…”Huh?”

The planet Mercury rules communication, education, contracts, short trips (which includes cars and travel schedules), early childhood, siblings, cousins, and neighbors. When Mercury goes retrograde, the planet appears to be going backwards letting us retrace our steps to redo a lesson important for our personal growth.

Mercury went retrograde on April 18 and will continue until May 11.  Many people view a Mercury retrograde as a nuisance, like a gnat that won’t stop buzzing around our heads, but a Mercury retrograde is a wonderful opportunity to redo, redecorate, reorganize, research, read, reunite, reconnect, and restore. Anything with a “re” in it is encouraged. Reunions are wonderful events, and it is the best time to clean out the garage.

What to avoid during a Mercury retrograde is anything NEW.  This is a little difficult if you are starting a New Year, but generally this is not a good time  to sign a contract, buy a new house, start a new relationship (unless it is with someone you used to know), open a new business, purchase a new car, or make travel plans. These events are often met with delays or frustrations.

I actually don’t mind it when Mercury goes retrograde.  However, I have noticed this past week my computer went down when my radio show went live, a friend of mine who was traveling to Europe had to cancel her trip because of the volcano, and I had an intense urge to re-pot all the plants in my garden.   I also reconnected with some old friends and cleaned out my drawers, which are huge positives for me.  It’s easier to take these things in stride when you understand the Mercury Retrograde experience.

My advice is to take things a little slower, get your spring cleaning done, and take a little time for yourself.

    Hi Harriette,
You just wrote the most informative and concise article on Mercury retrograde that I have ever read.
I can’t tell you how many of my clients ask, “what is this?”
I am printing out your article and making copies to give to my clients.
    Thank you!!

  2. So that’s what happened to me!

    Hi, Harriette,

I’m interviewing for two different positions within the same company. Is this a bad time to change jobs?

    Thanks, Harriette

  4. Hi Linda!
If the new job is within the same company you already work at, then it’s not a bad time to switch. If the new job is outside of where you work now, then it’s not recommended to begin a new job during a mercury retrograde, however, if you have worked with them before, it is fine. You could also be interviewing now, but starting later. Now, here’s the thing, say, you interview for the job and get hired and take it, it may not be a job you will have forever. It might be temporary or a stepping stone to something better. But short term doesn’t mean days, it could be months or years, too. Go with your intuition.
