all buttoned-up

Winter is upon us and I have taken out the coat with lining and discovered that my buttons were missing. Now, I know that I must’ve noticed some of the buttons coming loose. Maybe when one fell off, I tucked it into the pocket and made a fleeting mental note to sew that back on the moment I got home, or better yet. I probably thought the jacket needs dry cleaning anyway, I will just give the button to the tailor with a note.

Well… PS… a few weeks ago, during a blustery evening, I was button-less and chilly. So off I go to Walmart to find some matching buttons (are you giggling, now?) They only have generic buttons and no match for my London Fog Trench Coat. (Notice, too, how before I just said it was my winter coat with a lining, but now that I am trying to match the buttons, I now mention the label and have elevated the importance of finding my coveted matching buttons.)

Off to the JoAnn Fabrics. They have a good selection of buttons, but in my case no-match. (Do you see that? What I did there? How I now imply, YOU may find YOUR matching buttons, but me – with MY needs of MY exotic coat again no-match!)

But knowing that it probably was not going to get any warmer and I did REALLY need buttons…. I usher over a customer service rep. I tell her of my plight, my needs. I show her the coat. And then, as we were talking I realized…. I will NEVER FIND the PERFECT match! Now, sure, I could research the manufacturer, the exact color and die-cast my own perfect button, but even color to the plastic will not be an exact match, and what kind of cost are we talking here?

So I resolve. I find a complimentary button and replace the entire lot of buttons. The customer service rep did help me verify the sizes of the buttons were correct and she did find the PERFECT thread to compliment the fabric AND the new buttons.

PS I have since sewed ALL the buttons on by myself and am snug-as-a-bug-in-a-rug in my Winter Jacket. (Notice now.. with the reality of the situation… it is back to term Jacket).

What does this have to do with Real Estate in Santa Clarita Valley?
When looking for a home to buy you may have in your mind your PERFECT HOME. And the reality of that situation is unless you are going to custom-build your home, the home will probably not have everything on your PERFECT list. So, starting with your budget first, make a list of what you MUST HAVE and what you would LIKE TO HAVE.

Share your list with your REALTOR®, this will help keep you both on the same page and avoid looking at homes that do not meet your MUST HAVE list. Also, if during your process of seeing homes you realize that your list of MUST HAVEs changes, update the list and keep open lines of communication with your REALTOR®.
