Located on Ruether Ave in Canyon Country, Help the Children (previously Hunger Defense Fund) has been helping people with financial difficulties in the Santa Clarita Valley for years. Many people remain unaware of their international connections. With the name change they made it easier for us to see what this wonderful organization has been doing throughout the world. Help the children is currently serving people in need in 52 countries and now they join other organizations sending items to Haiti.
Their goal is to collect items including food, bottled water, clothing, shoes and first aid items to send to Haiti. A local representative, Wendy, spoke with me on the phone and shared that they will also collect money for the cost of shipping these items. Anyone who is able is encouraged to donate $5 for each box of items. All items collected will be send to their main warehouse in Bell, California where they will be packed and shipped to Haiti.
Because the Santa Clarita location also collects items to be distributed locally, please label any donations “Haiti” to help in sorting items. You can also make financial donations online at their website.

More ways to help the country of Haiti, locallin in Santa Clarita:
All Corked Up Wine, with volunteers from our local SCV Vintner’s and Grower’s Association, has announced a fundraising event on Thursday January 21 from 6-8pm. The cost of $15 per guest, that includes wine and live music, will go to 3 Angels Children’s Relief, a non-profit organization dedicated to the needs of orphaned children in Petionville, Haiti. 26340 Diamond Place, Santa Clarita, CA 91350.
Vino 100 will be collecting donations for CARE’s Haiti Relief Efforts from today until Jan. 23. The store is located at 28112 Newhall Ranch Road in Valencia, in the HighRidge Crossing Center at Copper Hill Drive
Concerto Salon and Spa, located on Cinema Drive in Valencia, has set a fundraiser for Sunday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Get a hair cut, color or any other service and the proceeds will be donated to Haiti Relief. Concerto Salon and Spa is located at 23340 Cinema Dr., Valencia 91355.
