city manager’s message for may

Greetings! I hope this spring finds you outside, enjoying the beauty of the season in Santa Clarita.

As always, there are a whole host of great community events aimed at keeping you active and involved in your community. Two of my favorites in May include the annual SCV Dodger Day event and the Relay for Life event. Check out the City’s community calendar for all of the details on these and other fun things to do.

If you haven’t already received your quarterly SEASONS magazine in the mail, you probably will soon! SEASONS magazine is full of great opportunities for you and your family to enjoy our local parks and facilities. Sports program for all ages, low-cost classes, lap swim, free concerts and so much more are offered to our residents in the coming months.

In Old Town Newhall, we are well underway with the final two blocks of our streetscape program. Construction of the streetscape project in Old Town is expected to be completed later this year and includes new street furniture, more caping and hardscaping aimed at dramatically improving the look of the area. This final area will complete the five block Main Street streetscape project.

Also in Old Town Newhall, the City is moving forward with the construction of a new and larger library, to be located at the corner of Lyons and Main Street in the heart of Old Town. The beautiful new Library will be a two story facility with a Children’s Library, Teen Area, Technology Center, Community Meeting Room, Browsing and Reading Lounge, Homework Center, Express Check, Friends of Library Sale Area and Exhibition Gallery. Fiction and Non-fiction collections, Reference and Technology Area, Quiet Reading, Local History, Small Group Meeting Rooms and the Current Magazine Fireplace Reading Room are also included. In total, the new Old Town Newhall Library will have a book and media capacity of more than 135,000 items. The public will have access to 68 public use computers, 190 reader seats, and 110 meeting seats.

Thank you for your interest in our great City! Should you wish to contact me directly, my email address is kpulskamp@santa-clarita.com.

Sincerely,
Ken Pulskamp
