change is unavoidable

This is The Second of a Four Part Series on Moving Through Painful Life Change.

Guidleine #2 Ask For and Allow Support

Change is unavoidable. When change happens, slow your life down. Delegate responsibilities and ask for help from loved ones. Doors open, doors close and sometimes we have no control over the outcome. We do, however, have control over our response.

How we respond to change defines our quality of life. Sometimes we’re so devastated by change that it controls us for awhile. We can really feel powerless - over our lives, our circumstances and our future. It’s tempting to wallow in dispair.

“What’s the use?”, we ask oursleves.

“Why bother?”, we sigh.

Others may offer to help, and sometimes we refuse. Oh,oh, time to rewind. Carrying the world on your shoulders in difficult times serves no one; not you, not your family - and it certainly doesn’t make things easier. Accept support from others! Ask for it when it’s not offered. Slow your life down a little. Delegate.

Relieving pressure will help conserve your resources for the reconstruction (or renovation) of your life as you pass through the change. Make a list of things you can ask for help with. Make a second list of things you can put on hold for awhile. Do you have to chair the committee of your favorite charity, or can you lighten your level of responsibility and be a worker bee for awhile? Use your crock pot instead of preparing a four-course dinner every night.

Next week we’ll discuss the value of journaling and conversation as you gently move through change.  Please click on the link below for my Success Made Simple column on page two, and please feel free to send a message on Facebook.
