moving gently through change
This is the fourth and final post in this series. Please see previous posts.
– - Guideline #4 Support Groups – -
Has a dramatic change devastated your life? I wouldn’t be surprised if it hasn’t these days. What with the effects of a poor economy, joblessness, relationship stress, and loss on many levels, many lives are stressed to the hilt by major – if not traumatic – life change.
If you’re dealing with major issues, death of a child, cancer, addiction, etc. there is professional support. There are therapists and social organizations just for you. Contact your local Child and Family services organization, Zonta, or the Chamber of Commerce for resources. Action for Teens in Santa Clarita is a great resource for parents.
At the very least, seek out a support group designed for your particular issue. There are people who can relate to whatever it is you’re dealing with, and gathering in support of one another is HUGE. If you can’t find a group or prefer not to go to one, there are plenty of books on the market. About 500,000 books are printed each year and many deal with the topic of loss, change, healing and recovery.
Keep this close to your heart, dear friend: Change is personal. Don’t allow other people’s urging to “get over it” interfere with your process. As long as you’re moving through it, the pain and sadness will pass.
I hope this series has offered hope. If you take away just one thing, remember not to isolate. Being with people, even for short periods will aid in your healing. Thanks for listening. I’m right here with you – lots of changes going on in my life, too. You have my love, my support and my compassion. Please let me know if I can help.
