packing tips

It’s vacation season, so I thought you might need some help packing:

  • Plan ahead so you don’t pack while in panic mode and throw everything in the suitcase.
  • Lay out desired outfits. Choose items that you’ll wear multiple times. There’s no room for “just in case” clothing.
  • Choosing neutrals or one or two complimentary color schemes means more possible ensembles with less pieces of clothing.
  • Now this next tip really is essential – pack only your most comfy shoes. This is not the time to bring out those 5 inch designer strappy sandals. Sure you’ll look great for a few minutes but is it really worth hurting yourself so you can’t walk the next day?
  • The less you pack the easier on you. I have lugged some very heavy suitcases from the baggage claim to the transportation/shuttle area and nearly pulled my shoulder out of it’s socket.
  • Also, by not over packing, you’ll arrive with your clothing less wrinkled.
  • And let’s be honest girls, you’ll want to shop. Best have some extra room in that suitcase to pack those treasures you’ll find.
  • And speaking of souvenirs, be practical in your choices. Buy things that you will actually use, like a handbag or wallet, or jewelry. Stay away from those touristy nick-nacks. They’ll just create clutter back home.

I hope that helps you enjoy your trip, and share with us your vacation destination.  Bon Voyage!!

My passion for organization really took off in 2002 when I became a design consultant in the custom closet industry and then went on to designing entertainment centers and offices for a custom furniture company. I learned a great deal about offering solutions that worked for that individual client and their particular needs.

With that experience I created New Leaf – the art of organizing. I enjoy helping people create the homes, workspaces and lives they want through organization. I bring to your project skills in de-cluttering, space planning, storage solutions, and time management, as well as enthusiasm and a sense of humor. I can help you organize your file drawers to your digital files on your tech gadgets to your closets.

I’m also a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers and I’m the Director of Communications and Technology for the Los Angeles chapter.

Disorganization and clutter can compound the stress and frustration in our lives. Your home should energize you – not zap your energy. Allow me to show you how organization can improve your life.

  4. Great tips for packing. I usually have anxiety when comes to this… do I take enough, too much, will it be hot or cold? Maybe I don’t want to wear this particular outfit, give myself a few choices. And there’s the shoe dilemma. Sound confusing?
    I’ll take your advice!
