a lesson in giving and receiving

a lesson in giving and receiving

This is the time of year that is synonymous with Giving.  But what about Receiving?  You must experience both things to sustain balance and flow in your life.

What does that mean exactly?

Many years ago I got some great advice from a stranger.  She explained to me that people, women mostly, are extremely adept at Giving.  This group is  identified as Givers, and seemed to give, give, give with grace, ease, and frequency.

After awhile, the Givers give out, feeling spent and tired and sometimes resentful.  The reason is, they have not experienced Receiving.  I’m sure you have seen this happen many times.  A guest brings a gift for the hostess of a dinner party and the hostess sticks her hand out and says, “No, no, no!”  As the gift is bigstockphoto_Talk_To_The_Hand_-_Bu
refused, the Giver of the gift is perplexed.  The energy between the Giver and Receiver has been stopped completely. There is now no flow, no chi, and an uncomfortable situation.

Why would the hostess refuse the gift?  Because no one wants to be “obligated” to give something back, and they don’t understand that a simple “Thank you” is all that  is required in return.

I’m going to give you three words that can change your life if you feel that you are a part of the Giver group.  These three words should be repeated often throughout the day, especially during this holiday season.  Perhaps writing them down and keeping them in a safe place will make it even more special.  Here you go.  Here they are.  Get ready.

I HONOR RECEIVING

These three words changed my life. I have been using this phrase repeatedly over the last 17 years and my life continues to be full of magic and wonder. I honor receiving when I find my keys after losing them, I honor receiving when a client books an appointment. I even honor receiving when I get a compliment.  I do this silently, but it is a natural thought that comes to my mind that helps regulate the give and take, yin and yang, giving and receiving that fills my life.

Receiving is difficult for many, but if you simply keep honoring receiving and make these two words your bestfriend, you will be more than fine.  What two words?   Oh, these…..

THANK YOU.
