I began this life in what was at the time, Leopoville, Belgian Congo. (Currently it is Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.) I started early to study metaphysics in the form of Astrology at age 8 and had my first existential crisis at age 12. I also began to work with Tarot at about that age, though I don’t think that the two are related. I continued to be drawn to metaphysics in its many various forms. I studied “Trance Channeling” (which I now refer to as Mediumship) in the 1980s. It was in the 80s that I found myself a home at the Healing Light Center Church under the direction of Rev. Rosalyn L. Bruyere. My spiritual guidance gave me a lifelong gift when it led me to her doors. I have had the great honor and pleasure of working as her student for over 20 years now. Ordained first in the Universal Life Church, I then earned a degree in Hands on Healing (Energy Medicine) from the HLCC and years later was ordained again – this time as a Healing Light Center Church minister. I have always believed that God doesn’t care what you call her, as long as you call . The seminary program at the HLCC taught me to work in and honor many spiritual traditions – Christian, Jewish, Bon Po, Goddess, Wiccian, Egyptian and the ways of the Native Americans or the Red Road. I later spent several years exclusively following the Red Road and studying with a Native teacher. I call my ministry a Gypsy ministry as I simply go where I’m called.

I think it is because my fondest memories are when I was a little girl, my great grandfather and great grandmother would chop huge sugar blocks into small cubes for their daily coffee. This ritual would take place every Sunday morning at the breakfast table. This memory inspired me to work with sugar”.

It feels like the food and restaurant business is in Chef Dawn Walker’s blood.
Chef’s father worked for S.E. Rykoff (now U.S. Foods) most of her childhood. Growing up, the experiences she remembers most were riding with her father on his runs in Malibu, Pasadena or Beverly Hills. She could small talk with the head chefs in some of the top restaurants of the day. She ate her way through four star restaurants, hospital commissaries, retirement home kitchens, dormitories and cafés.
Her parents were master distributors for Famous Amos Cookies, Smoke Craft Beef Jerky, Have A Chip and more back in the 1980′s.
Chef Dawn’s dad helped her get my first waitress job at Coco’s Restaurant when she was in high school. She worked in restaurants (Marie Callender’s and Cheesecake Factory) until she graduated college and went to work for Rykoff-Sexton herself, selling food and equipment to the industry in Philadelphia. She stayed at Rykoff a year until she was offered a salary position with another company, outside the restaurant industry.
After eight years in the insurance industry, and after she got married and had children, she realized that she missed the restaurant industry. Dawn and her husband took many culinary vacations and she graduated from Westlake Culinary Institutes’ Certificate Program. She taught cooking classes for a year and started Dawn’s Dinners, Inc. (www.chefdawn.com) last May of 2009.
At Dawn’s Dinners, Chef make dinners for seniors, singles, couples and families and her goal is to help folks eat at home, together more often. Her business has taken off. In under one year, she has almost 400 subscribers to her weekly menu newsletter, 419 fans on her Facebook Fan page, 219 subscribers to her group page, 914 Twitter followers and makes about 60 meals for between four and six people each weekly. She is the food writer and restaurant critic for SceneInSCV.com and has a very active website with between 40-75 new page views per day.
With Dawn’s Dinners, clients pick up healthy meals which feed four to five people for $25! The meals are fresh, gourmet, kid-friendly and are personalized for dietary restrictions and allergies. Meals are made fresh on Tuesdays and Thursdays and clients can pick up in the morning or late afternoon. Many clients are monthly and get four to eight meals per week.
Chef Dawn is active in lots of community groups including Girl Scouts, Synergy Networking, Hadassah, SCV Chamber of Commerce, SCV Concierge, HotSpotSCV, Women Entrepreneurs of SCV, Santa Clarita Valley International Charter School Booster Club, Temple Beth Ami, The Betty Ferguson Foundation, SCV Mom’s Blog, The 25-Score, and Think Tank.
Besides Dawn’s Dinners, she caters large and small events for non-profits. Chef Dawn’s commitment to children’s healthy eating habits extends to her daughter’s school where she founded the snack shack which provides mostly organic snacks to the kids. The healthy snack shack idea was submitted to Kiwi Magazine’s Moms of the Revolution contest to find moms who have made a difference in the health of children. Chef Dawn won “Runner-up,” which featured a picture and small article about the snack shack in the September/October issue and $500 worth of healthy, organic snacks. She also created a lunch program at the school (no lunch program was running prior) providing school lunches which are not only tasty and appealing to the students and affordable to parents, but organic as well. Her school community loves the food so much that parents order lunch for themselves and come eat with their kids.
Another program she started at SCVi is around the local Farmers Market. A volunteer shows up at the end of our Sunday’s Farmer’s Market to pick up the fresh fruit and vegetables that the farmer’s were unable to sell. The produce is taken to school and washed. Fresh fruit and cut up veggies are put out on a platter in the Student Center for the students to munch on during the day. All last year, Chef came in on Mondays and cooked with the kids using whatever vegetables brought from the Farmers Market. Now she runs the program and has parent volunteers doing the cooking and collecting. They make healthy soups from the produce. Kids who admitted to never eating their vegetables suddenly are eating soup made solely of vegetables.
She also continues to head up the Health and Wellness Committee which has written food and wellness policies for the school, organizes projects like the edible school yard and Earth Day and publishes a wellness newsletter.

After losing my husband eight years ago from a severe stroke and finding myself in the depths of despair, I picked myself up and moved on with my life while taking care of two children, a home, animals and financial responsibilities.Upon completion of grief therapy, I realized I needed help with a new direction for my life. I began working with a Life Coach. During that time, we discovered that I had a gift for performing the same kind of work. I took the initiative and enrolled with the Coach’s Training Institute Certification Program and became certified in 2008. In 2009, I became a graduate of the Coach’s Training Institute’s Leadership Program, which changed my life forever! After the loss of my husband and the recent loss of my sister to cancer, I found the courage to overcome adversity and move forward with my life. With the help of mentors and training, I discovered a profound strength that supplies me with the tools for sharing with others and a deeper capacity for compassion and understanding during challenging times.I have dedicated my life’s work to helping women whose lives have been adversely impacted; assisting them with healing and providing them with the tools and support to re-energize and to face new beginnings for living life with passion and purpose.Contact information for Denise:

Having studied under some of the greatest masters in the world, she has a special allegiance to her first andforemost teacher, Grand Master Professor Thomas Lin Yun. Under His tutelage in Berkeley CA., Elaine has become one of the most sought after and respected Feng Shui consultants in the country, traveling far and wide to accommodate her clientele. Elaine works closely with all of her clients to help achieve the ultimate desired effect, without changing or altering the style and taste of the client. She is very sensitive to the needs of the client, and will never impose a Feng Shui “cure” that will seem obtrusive.
With her sense of design and her expert knowledge of Feng Shui, she will always find a Feng Shui adjustment that fits the taste of the client.
Over time, Elaine has developed a large following of satisfied clients willing to speak highly of her extraordinary Feng Shui skills. Her clients include virtually hundreds of family homes, corporate offices, restaurants, hotels, schools, shopping centers, and physician, attorney and dentist offices. Elaine is often contacted by architects, builders, interior designers, and landscapers who seek advice on their prospective projects. Elaine also has a large client roster of TV and film celebrities, along with many recording artists as well. Executives in the TV, film and recording industries have called upon Elaine to help bring balance and harmony into their environments often plagued by stress and tension. She uses a practical approach to the application of Feng Shui, which often results in positive changes within a short amount of time.
By recognizing our environment as a manifestation of our spiritual and psychological condition, Elaine Giftos Wright explores this intersection of self andhome, to help her clients find true comfort and joy. Since the spiritual precedes the physical, the “Wright Way of Feng Shui” method can create a new beginning, repair what is harmful, and increase what is already good in homes, shops, and offices. Among other things, Elaine has successfully used Feng Shui to increase her clients’ business and income, resolve family conflicts, andhelp them find the perfect partner, or give their careers a needed boost.
Some of you may recognize Elaine from her former work in the entertainment industry. Since then, she has starred in hundreds of TV shows and films including, Three’s Company, Magnum P.I., Ally McBeal and Murder She Wrote, to name a few. Her work in Feng Shui gives her more pleasure than all the years she spent in the entertainment business. “MY GREATEST JOY IS HELPING PEOPLE ACHIEVE HAPPIER LIVES. I LOVE THE CALLS FROM CLIENTS WHO REPORT ALL THE POSITIVE CHANGES IN THEIR LIVES AFTER OUR FENG SHUI WORK.”
Elaine is also the owner and President of HOME STAGING INNOVATIONS, a company that combines Feng Shui with the techniques of home staging for optimal results in the sale of your home

My passion for organization really took off in 2002 when I became a design consultant in the custom closet industry and then went on to designing entertainment centers and offices for a custom furniture company. I learned a great deal about offering solutions that worked for that individual client and their particular needs.
With that experience I created New Leaf – the art of organizing. I enjoy helping people create the homes, work spaces and lives they want through organization. I bring to your project skills in de-cluttering, space planning, storage solutions, and time management, as well as enthusiasm and a sense of humor. I can help you organize your file drawers to your digital files on your tech gadgets to your closets.
I’m also a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers and I’m the Director of Communications and Technology for the Los Angeles chapter.
Disorganization and clutter can compound the stress and frustration in our lives. Your home should energize you – not zap your energy. Allow me to show you how organization can improve your life.

I love the hunt. I am inspired by things for moments at a time and can switch my thoughts in seconds. Creativity motivates me. Finding new places to shop, eat, hang out, visit or check out in Santa Clarita for this ezine, makes me happy. My in-laws live nearby and can stop by anytime of the day making it difficult for me to work at the computer in my comfy Hawaiian robe, but sometimes I live on the wild side and do it anyway. I appreciate quality friends, quality relationships and my family. I am inspired by the contributing writers for Scene In SCV and think that they all have something unique to say that will add to the quality of your day, and that makes me happy too. I have a college degree from ASU in Journalism, I am an award winning cook (twice), I am the step-mother of 2 boys that are in college (both went through the Hart District school system) and I am the wife to my husband Ed, whom I met on an Internet dating site in 2001. Nancy Nicholson is no California native. In fact, she spent the first nine days of her life living in Denver, Colorado. But most people don’t hold that against her, as she is a true Southern California girl through and through. As an insurance agent with Santa Clarita Insurance Services, Nancy’s spent the last 20+ years of her life advising clients in all things related to minimizing risk through properly insuring your home, business, auto, life and health. That is, she’s something of an insurance guru, which has led her clients to affectionately deem her “The Insurance Doctor.”
But all work and no play makes for a really dull existence, so Nancy spends her off hours blending work and play via networking with others. She is inspired by other entrepreneurs, and enjoys sharing and hearing the stories like minded friends who also value the personal growth that comes from being professionally successful.
As a mother of two adult children, Nancy’s spare time is spent with friends and family. That is, when she’s not focusing on a long held passion for competitive swimming. In fact after having retired from competitive swimming for 30 years, she’s recently rediscovered her love of the sport, andrecently placed in the top 20% nationwide.
An avid traveler, Nancy loves road trips off the beaten path, and counts Hawaii as one of her favorite getaway spots. In the future she plans to continue broaden the reach of her travels, and remain committed to community and volunteer service, but that doesn’t mean that she has any plans to retire. When you love your job as much as she does, it can hardly be considered work, so she plans to continue helping Santa Clarita Valley residents protect themselves and their futures for years to come. In the meantime, she’s going to share some of her best tips for protecting yourself, here at SceneInSCV.com.Contact Information for Nancy:

All through childhood Stacy exhibited a unique gift for being creative and having a keen eye for “color.” By the age of 12, she oil painted professionally, selling her paintings to an interior decorator which turned to dollars for a twelve-year-old child. Whether it was a still life seascape or floral scene, Stacy was able to create the paintings for him and his clients, using perfect colors and shades. At the age of 18, Stacy decided to transfer her talents for color to hair and attended beauty school and became a cosmetologist. Steve Roth
You may recognize the name, Karen Roth, the holistic nutritionist who posts on Scene In SCV. Well, I’m her husband, the benefactor of Karen’s amazing insight on health and nutrition. My goal for writing this blog is to share with you guys (and women too!) valuable information I’ve learned from my live-in nutritionist about food and nutrition which may not only improve your overall health, but keep you out of the doctor’s office, perhaps off unnecessary meds, and out of the hospital. Being a former TV comedy writer, you can count on my post to not only be informative, but entertaining as well.
