changing family eating habits
Since Dawn is out of town at a catering convention this week, I thought I would re-run an article that Dawn wrote several months ago. Dawn wears many hats: to some, she is Dawn Walker a wife, mother, daughter, Maj Jongg player and friend. To others, she is Chef Dawn, an entrepreneur. And to the Scene readers, I hope she has become more than a friendly author, chef and restaurant reviewer, but someone... read more

stop saying yuck!
I can’t remember which magazine this article was from but it was so interesting that I think you should read it. It was written by Jennifer Chen: We all have foods we can’t stomach. To help ourselves get over them, we asked molecular biologist and nutitional scientist Eric Nowicki for a one-way ticket out of Gagsville. About one in four people actually tastes vegetables like brussel sprouts... read more

restaurant review: fish tail and vino 100
I heard about Fish Tail at 28104 Newhall Ranch Road, between Vino 100 and Chipotle, from editor and owner of SceneInSCV, Marlene Bernstein. She mentioned that if you buy a bottle of wine from Vino 100, you could enjoy the wine at Fish Tail with no corkage fee and a free appetizer. I had to go!!! Read Marlene’s article this week for a full review on Vino 100 on Wednesday CLICK HERE ON WED. Like... read more

diets diets everywhere
My mission is to help families eat together at home more often. Finding food to appeal to everyone at your dinner table can be challenging enough if don’t have allergies or dietary restrictions. But what about families who do? How do families who have a child who is allergic to eggs, dairy and nuts find food that everyone can eat? I do not really have this problem. Our four daughters eat... read more

creme brulee and flan
Perhaps one of my favorite foods is Creme Brulee. This custardy dessert with French origins dating back to the 1600’s, topped with caramelized sugar has warmed my heart from meal to meal over the past twenty years. I am a purist when it comes to this dessert. Don’t give me berries or lemon ginger or rum raisin – just the slightly yellowy strongly vanilla-y flavor that melts in my... read more

restaurant review: barcelona tapas lounge
Peaking out from the remains of Barbacoa and Wild Thyme in Stevenson Ranch stands the all new, privately owned and operated Barcelona Tapas Lounge. For those of you who do not know the location, it is across the parking lot from Chilis and behind Noah’s Bagels, Subway and Starbucks on The Old Road. My husband and I have often discussed that location and the challenge any owner would have given... read more

thanks in 2009 and looking forward to 2010
I must apologize if you read this before Thanksgiving but in the spirit of being thankful in 2009, I must repeat….. and thank those thankless food items that make our lives so much better. The Fruit. For the bright and the dull, the sweet, the sour and the savory, the round and the obscure, the sugar filled, the soft, the hard and those with pits, the seeded and the aromatic. To the fruit that... read more
