gift of grief

gift of grief

Among other things, groundedness; More than anyone would ever ask for.  And a complete experience of the present moment. When my 11 year old tiger cat Willow died on Sunday, I was so enveloped by what was happening that I made no other choices, I thought of nothing else. I didn’t worry about the past or the future. I was in the NOW.  I didn’t even try.  I was so completely in the pain of having to make the decision about ending her life, that it never occurred to me to try and “be” anywhere else. This is where I am. This is what I am to do now. Nothing is more important than this.  I didn’t look for a hierarchy of tasks.  I never visited their different levels of importance.  I only had one thing to do at this moment, and that was to so completely...

the cocoon

“There is something in every one of us that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in ourselves.  It is the only true guide we will ever have.” - Howard Thurman Human Butterflies, Part II The second stage of answering our soul’s call is entering the cocoon, which is for the caterpillar a literal enclosed space. Until one day when the caterpillar feels compelled to stop it’s incessant eating and find a secluded twig.  Then it does an amazing thing; it creates a second womb for itself, a sacred place where a power beyond and within itself slowly destroys all that it was, and is remade into an entirely new being. I’ve always wondered about the call that signals this miracle; is there a change in the rhythm of the rain ? Maybe it...

oprah and energy medicine

oprah and energy medicine

I’m an Oprah fan.   I wasn’t always, but she grew on me slowly – like that weedy-looking plant in my garden that finally bloomed after all the rain we had this spring. I’ve watched her intermittently over the years, but the more she revealed her viewpoint on love and soul-work, and opened conversations about the force of energy in our lives and the Universe, I’ve listened closer.  I like that she puts thought into her philanthropy and gives to people in ways that support their lives either physically or emotionally and she recognizes that what she gives out she gets back, tenfold. “Everything is energy,” she said during the final hour of her daily show two weeks ago.  And for the next five minutes she spoke of how the energy you bring into a...
