hottest trend in social media
The hottest and newest trend in social media is moving to Geotagging sites. What is that you ask? Geotagging is a mobile application that allows real-time tracking of your activities and location. Basically, Geotagging takes advantage of the GPS technology that’s built into smartphones to build a community at a street level instead of just at a global level.
Most major social media sites are adding this to their platforms at an accelerated rate. Yahoo was the first to bring it on with Koprol in 2004. A few years later in 2007 a Gowalla was founded. It wasn’t until social media exploded that people started to even notice these platforms. With the popularity of Foursquare in 2009, Geotagging seems to be the HOTTEST thing around. Jumping on this band wagon is Yelp, Google Places, Twitter Places and the newest Facebook Places.
So what does this mean for your small Business?
The Internet is more useful to small business than it has ever been before by allowing local business owner’s access to Geotagging, local search, and location-based services to offer promotions of real-time location-based rewards and specials. Some business owners offer special offers or coupons to those that are on these Geotagging sites therefore increasing traffic to their place of business.
The “big players” of social media, so it seems, have finally noticed the untapped market of small business owners. This is why location-based services are being developed. Location-based services make it possible for you and me to connection online with the customers that live within 10, 20 or 50 miles from our place of business.
Want to know who your Goetagging customers are? Try this experiment: Watch your customers today, and tell me how many walk in with a smartphone. Even better, tell me how many are using that smartphone while they stand in line! They are your captive audience and the ones you are connecting to with Geotagging.
I use my knowledge to assist clients in this new wave of web marketing. I also put my five years of upscale retail management experience to work bringing a higher level of success to everything I touch. My three years of experience in the hotel industry (Sales Department, Accounting, and concierge) helped to polish my business savvy. Although my main focus is social media, I has a strong background with fundraising for a large non-profit organization and chaired several events. I am a proud mother of three beautiful children. I live happily in Santa Clarita Valley, California.
