hair & skin problems…think hormones!

hair & skin problems…think hormones!

Are you experiencing greater than normal hair growth in unwanted areas?  Or even more disturbing, are you experiencing hair loss?  Is your skin dull, dry, or sagging? Do you have more acne than a teenager? All of these conditions may be directly related to your hormones. When estrogen levels drop in a woman, her skin can start to sag and wrinkle. Estrogen is like the glue that holds it all together. It’s also the hormone that gives your face that healthy glow.  Inadequate estrogen has health consequences bringing with it an increased risk of osteoporosis, heart disease as well as mood and memory problems.

When testosterone levels are elevated or wildly fluctuating, the skin will start to experience breakouts or full blown acne. Another side effect is excessive facial hair especially around the lip and chin. Those are just two examples of where unwanted hair will start to develop.  Testosterone can also be responsible for the hair on your head to start thinning or beginning to fall out by the handful.  When this happens, excessive testosterone is actually causing the female body to become more masculine in appearance.

Elevated Testosterone levels should not be ignored. Besides the unpleasant effect it has on the skin and hair, elevated testosterone can increase the risk of heart disease and blood sugar disorders.

If your hair and skin is not what you like it to be, despite all the time and money you may be spending on facials, waxing and other treatments, know that you do have options. I offer a very simple and accurate saliva test, which, when analyzed by the lab, produces a clear picture of what’s going on.  If a problem is identified, I then work with my clients on an individual basis to balance their system, not with drugs, but naturally.  Sometimes adjustments are as simple as slight changes in diet.  Other times, it’s more involved.  Either way, the end result can be life changing.
