The other day I was in the garage and I noticed that I have an entire corner of my garage where I store Chairs. Different kinds of chair, metal folding, lawn chairs, beach chairs, those chairs you can collapse that fit in an over-the-shoulder bag, and collapsable chairs that have a foot rest, I call those my portable bar-ca-lounger. Then I got to thinking, now that summer is upon us I will be using these chairs more often. I take a chair with me to the pool, I take a chair with me to the Central Park Concerts in the Park, to the Lexus Jazz Series on Town Center, I take a chair to see the Fourth of July parade in Newhall, CA, to see the Fireworks at the Mall on the Fourth of July, and I take the chairs camping. When I grew up my Dad always referred to dogs as “hes” and cats as “shes”. I never asked why. Perhaps it was because we had a dairy farm and my mom had a kennel full of dogs and we had many barn cats, so perhaps it was for efficiency. Well the apples don’t fall far from trees, as when it comes to lizard looking creatures to me they are all named “Fred”. Today, I happen to have an Uramastyx named “Fred”. A quiet unassuming lizard looking creature that loves watching TV and going for walks in the backyard. Yes, we have a harness; you may have met Fred at the Pet Expo in Santa Clarita. Lancaster boasts one of California’s most abundant crops of the vibrant poppies that are California’s state flower. For several years, the City of Lancaster co-sponsored the Wildflower Information Center with the Lancaster Woman’s Club to cater the interests of thousands of visitors who flocked to the Antelope Valley for a glimpse of these brilliant, beautiful flowers. Held at the Lancaster Museum/Art Gallery, visitors could pick up free wildflower maps and learn about the best viewing locations before heading out to the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve.
