why linking works

why linking works

Links are one of your best friends if you are trying to increase your organic search optimization. When you link something to your website, Facebook Fan Page, Blog, etc. you are placing that social media outlet on an internet spider web. Whenever someone searches for the link you put on your site, Your site “Pings”. Just like a spider web, when you flick the center eventually every single strand of it shakes. Links are the same way.  For example, say you posted something about the new movie Sex and the City. Every time someone looks up Sex in the City you get a ping. Will this put you on page one of Google?  Probably not.  However with enough “pings” on your sites, it will increase your exposure and eventually you can end up on page one and not pay a cent for it. There are several important ways to link.

Straight link from site to site.

Be sure that all your sites link up. You should be able to move through all your sites without having to open a new tab or put in a new URL.

Article links

Article links are great. If you want to get the most “bang for your buck” see what the site or blog is ranked at before taking the link to that article. If you have a choice of articles and one is ranked 5 and one is ranked 1, then take the one that is ranked 1 and get more “pings”. Go to http://www.googlerankings.com/ to see the ranking of any site.

RSS Feed

RSS feed things into your sites. Websites, Blogs, Facebook fan pages, can all support RSS feeds. RSS feeds are fantastic at driving to sites and I highly recommend do this.

Embed

If you are putting a video on any of your site, embedding is always better than linking. Embeding is a form of linking. Embed also means to enclose something firmly or snugly. When something is embedded it means it has become a part of the whole that surrounds it. Therefore giving your site a bigger “ping” when the link is hit.

As you can see there are many ways to link. I suggest you do them all. The more linking you do the easier your company or service will be to find on the world wide web.
